Legal and Privacy Policy for laidbackhikers.com

1.       Disclaimers

This is a good place to emphasize that we’re not professional hikers or mountain guides – this is just a personal website set up as a hobby project. Whilst outdoor activities such as hiking can be a lot of fun, they are also not without risk, and any activities that you undertake based on any information on this blog are entirely at your own risk. Please bear in mind that various factors such as the time of year, the weather and your health/fitness level can potentially make even the easiest walks difficult and/or dangerous.

Whilst the nature of this blog may give you some ideas for hikes or other activities, we should also emphasize that it is not intended to be a comprehensive source of information. We make no guarantee for the correctness of information provided on this website, and there are bound to be some inaccuracies and errors – we’re human after all! In general, we recommend that you check multiple sources before undertaking a hike. Further information can be found here for example, where we link some of our preferred sources for more information. In addition, mountains are also dynamic places and we don’t monitor the state of paths – local conditions may change between the time we go on a hike and the time you read our post about it. In the meantime, paths may have even moved or been closed, for example.

The information on the website is available free of charge. If you spot an error, feel free to contact us – we’re in the process of setting up a contact form as discussed in more detail below.

We link third party websites, so we should mention that we’re not responsible for the content or accuracy of any third party websites.

Any of the aspects outlined on this page, including the privacy aspects, may be changed without notice.

2.       Privacy

Personal data may be collected when you visit this website, for example by setting cookies. By using this website you consent to the collection of personally identifiable data, for example for website security, for website analytics and for advertising. As with most websites there are various third parties involved with providing the website, so this personal data may be collected by us or by third parties.

Having said that, we have tried to set up this website to minimise the collection of personal data. For example, we use Google Analytics, but with the data anonymised (regarding location, for example, it only records which city a page has been accessed from), and we use WordPress, which apparently does not collect any personal information. Most of the functionality of this website should still work even if you browse in a browser’s ‘private’ mode and have your browser set to block all cookies.

As of the time of writing, we don’t have any advertising or affiliate links on the site, but we might do so in the future.

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

2.1 Contact form

We have a contact form. Our default position is to try and avoid collecting personally identifiable data, and we have made providing personally identifying details optional on the contact form. However, if you’d like a response from us, you’ll presumably need to provide personally identifying information (such as an email address) to allow us to respond. We don’t plan to use your personally identifying information beyond what is needed to address any query or feedback you provide. If you contact us using the contact form and provide us with any personally identifying information, we will not sell that information or pass it on to third parties (unless legally required to do so), though it will presumably be held by third party providers since we don’t have our own servers – these servers may be outside of your home jurisdiction. Similarly, we will delete personally identifying information on request (unless legally required to keep it). If we set up a mailing list in future, contacting us will not add you to our mailing list – you will not be added to any mailing list unless you sign up for it separately.
